BATTERY PASSPORT
battery.live – compliance requirement today, competitive advantage tomorrow.
THE CLOCK IS TICKING – MANDATORY FROM FEBRUARY 18, 2027
The EU is making the digital battery passport mandatory – is your company ready?
The digital battery passport is coming – and the deadline is fixed. The legal basis is the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, the first product-specific regulation to take concrete shape under the Digital Product Passport (DPP) framework. From February 18, 2027, affected batteries will require a digital battery passport before they can be placed on the EU market.
The following battery categories are affected:
- Electric vehicle batteries (EV batteries) – traction batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles
- LV batteries – starter batteries for vehicles and light means of transport (e.g., light electric vehicles, LMT batteries)
- Industrial batteries – batteries with a capacity above 2 kWh for industrial applications, storage solutions, and stationary systems
The same applies to all three categories: no digital battery passport, no market access. Those who build the technical and organizational
foundation now secure legal certainty – and a head start over the competition.

THE DIGITAL BATTERY PASSPORT
The platform that turns the digital battery passport into a strategic asset.
Our platform enables full implementation of the digital battery passport – across the entire lifecycle of a battery, from manufacturing to use to recycling. Origin, material composition, carbon footprint, certificates, and sustainability data are centrally consolidated, prepared in compliance with EU requirements, and made digitally accessible directly at the battery via a QR code or Data Carrier. This turns a regulatory requirement into a genuine tool for transparency, traceability, and customer loyalty along the entire value chain.
DISCOVER THE PLATFORMSELECTABLE PLATFORM MODULES
Choose your individual building blocks for your battery passport.
Centralized storage and provision of all battery-related compliance documents – declarations of conformity, carbon footprint evidence, safety data sheets, and test certificates available digitally at any time.
Role-based permission assignments and multi-factor authentication control access to sensitive battery data – managed for internal teams, suppliers, and recycling partners.
Each battery is uniquely identifiable via serial number, batch, and history, and is traceably documented throughout its entire lifecycle – from the factory to second-life application.
Service, maintenance, and end-of-life processes such as take-back, reuse, and recycling are digitally controlled and documented – the foundation for a functioning battery circular economy.
Spare parts, replacement batteries, or additional services can be integrated directly into existing webshop systems via the battery passport – for a seamless digital customer experience.
Real-time capture, networking, and analysis of battery data via a central platform. States, operational data, and processes are continuously monitored and transparently visualized, giving companies an up-to-date overview of their assets at all times. The real-time availability of relevant data creates the foundation for faster decisions, optimized workflows, and more efficient control of processes and resources.

FROM A STATIC PASSPORT TO A LIVING DATA TWIN
Battery.live: real-time data straight from the battery.
A digital battery passport that only delivers historical and static data leaves potential untapped. With our IoT module THINGSFORCE®, you can
equip batteries with sensors and monitor them in real time. Charge cycles, state of health, temperature trends, and
usage data flow directly into the battery passport – dynamically, up to date, and automated.
This creates not only greater transparency for customers and authorities, but also the data foundation for new business models: from predictive
maintenance to optimized second-life marketing to usage-based billing.
New revenue channel: the second-life market
Only the real, usage-tracked state of health of a battery makes reliable statements about its residual suitability possible. Instead of
sending batteries straight to recycling after their first use, manufacturers can use dynamic data to specifically assess
which batteries are suitable for second use – for example, as stationary storage. This turns a previously unused resource into a new
revenue source and a business field of its own.
- Maximum real-time transparency – the condition, usage, and history of every battery available up to date at all times
- Early detection of performance loss – before a battery fails or becomes uneconomical
- Unlocking the second-life market – well-founded assessment of residual suitability based on real usage data creates new revenue models instead of
premature recycling - Well-founded recycling decisions – when a second use is no longer economical, based on real usage data instead of
estimates

These notes and answers will help you find your way:
The digital battery passport is the first concrete implementation of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) under the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. It requires manufacturers to digitally provide comprehensive data on origin, material composition, carbon footprint, and recyclability of a battery. For your company, this is more than a compliance requirement: it’s an opportunity to digitize processes and offer customers new digital services.
From February 18, 2027, electric vehicle batteries, LV batteries, and industrial batteries will require a digital battery passport before they can be placed on the EU market. The exact data requirements will be further specified through delegated acts – our platform automatically integrates these updates.
Thanks to our API-first approach, the platform can be seamlessly integrated into existing ERP, PIM, or PLM systems. We don’t tear down your IT infrastructure – instead, we pull the necessary raw data from your existing systems, prepare it in compliance with EU requirements, and provide it dynamically via the battery passport.
The battery passport is provided via a QR code or other Data Carrier directly on or at the battery. Users, workshops, and authorities scan the code and immediately get access to the information relevant to them.
The technical and organizational transition – data capture, system integration, process adjustment – takes time. In addition, major buyers and OEMs are already increasingly demanding battery passport readiness from their suppliers. Starting early secures your market position and market access.
Real-time data captured via battery.live, such as charge cycles, state of health, and temperature trends, provides a reliable basis for assessing a battery’s actual condition after its first use. Instead of recycling batteries across the board, this allows for targeted decisions on which batteries are suitable for second use – for example, as stationary energy storage. This opens up a new business field and an additional revenue source for manufacturers beyond pure sales.
- Beyond pure compliance, battery.live enables new revenue sources through spare parts and service business, faster customer service through digital history, closer customer relationships via a direct communication channel, and a more efficient circular economy through data-based recycling and second-life decisions.
